Manchester City have denied stories that they tried to sign Barcelona forward Lionel Messi by offering to triple his salary.

The Argentine had been Linked with a move to town since the takeover by Dubai’s ruling elite.

Rumours strong once Messi’s former Barcelona manager, Pep Guardiola, took over at the Etihad Stadium.

Reports in Mundo Deportivo, a Spanish newspaper, qquoted City chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak as saying:

‘We asked Guardiola to talk to him, we offered him triple the salary he has at Barcelona, but he never accepted,’

This morning, Manchester City’s voice denied that they’d created such a proposal, saying; ‘We deny the veracity of these quotes.’

Messi recently extended his consent European nation to run till 2021, and encompasses a unleash clause of 700 million euros.
