Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota both score twice as Liverpool thump Leeds
Liverpool ended their five-game winless streak with an impressive 6-1 victory over relegation-threatened Leeds, with Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota both scoring twice.
The match also marked the 34th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, with both teams paying their respects before kick-off.
Leeds started well but struggled after controversially conceding a goal to Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, who was assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Salah then doubled Liverpool’s lead with a powerful left-footed strike. Leeds reduced the deficit early in the second half through Luis Sinisterra, but Jota quickly restored Liverpool’s two-goal advantage.
Liverpool then added three more goals, with Salah, Jota, and substitute Darwin Nunez all finding the back of the net.
The result was a major boost for Liverpool, who had not won in any competition since their 7-0 victory over Manchester United in March, while Leeds’ hopes of avoiding relegation suffered another setback.
