Newcastle and Man United set for transfer battle for Premier League midfielder
According to a report from the Mirror, there is a transfer battle brewing for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona but is now attracting interest from Newcastle United and Manchester United.
Both Premier League clubs are said to be competing with Barcelona for Neves’ signature, especially considering the likelihood of Champions League qualification for all three teams. Newcastle United, under Eddie Howe’s management, can secure European football next season if they win their upcoming home game against Leicester City.
Manchester United, currently three points ahead of their rivals Liverpool, also have a strong chance of qualifying for the Champions League by winning either against Chelsea or Fulham in their remaining league games.
Assuming both teams achieve their European ambitions, they are expected to target a new midfielder in the summer transfer window. Neves, who is set to leave Molineux at the end of the season, has emerged as a potential target for both Newcastle United and Manchester United.
While Barcelona is currently considered the frontrunner in this transfer saga, recent reports suggest that if Neves has a change of heart and decides to stay in England, Newcastle United and Manchester United will be ready to pursue a deal for him.
During his six-year stint at Wolves, Neves has been a prolific midfielder, scoring 30 goals and providing 13 assists in 251 appearances across all competitions. With only 12 months remaining on his contract, a move away from Wolves seems imminent.
