Spurs Cruise to the Summit with Convincing Win Against Fulham

Son Heung-min and James Maddison scored to lead Tottenham Hotspur to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Fulham in their home match, reclaiming the top spot on the Premier League table.

Tottenham created several scoring opportunities in the first half, with Son breaking the deadlock in the 35th minute, marking his seventh goal of the season.

Fulham faced an uphill battle after the halftime break when Maddison swiftly extended Tottenham’s lead by one more goal.

Despite Raul Jimenez’s late attempt, Fulham struggled to mount a comeback, while Tottenham maintained their defensive stance, securing their fourth consecutive home win.

As the league leaders, they remain undefeated in the Premier League this season, boasting a two-point lead over second-placed Manchester City. Fulham, on the other hand, currently occupy the 13th position with 11 points to their name.

Tottenham started the match strongly, with Son forcing Bernd Leno to make a save and Micky van de Ven missing the target with his shot.

Fulham, after withstanding the early pressure, attempted to pose a threat of their own in the 12th minute, as a corner from the right found Joao Palhinha’s head, drawing an impressive save from Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham continued to create scoring opportunities, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg testing Leno’s reflexes shortly before Richarlison narrowly missed the target.

With just 10 minutes left in the first half, Tottenham’s relentless pressure forced a costly mistake from Fulham. Calvin Bassey’s errant pass gifted possession to Tottenham, allowing them to quickly set up Son, who unleashed an unstoppable strike past Leno, giving Tottenham a narrow lead at halftime.

Bassey’s defensive shortcomings continued, offering Spurs a chance to score their second goal in a similar fashion. Bassey’s poor clearance allowed Son to set up Maddison, who slotted home his third goal of the season.

Bassey’s lack of confidence was evident when he was dispossessed in his own box, but fortunately for him, his central defensive partner Tim Ream blocked Maddison’s attempt.

Jimenez missed a late opportunity to score a goal after receiving Harry Wilson’s perfectly timed through ball, with his right-footed shot saved by the determined Vicario.

With their fifth win of the season secured, Tottenham will now prepare for a Friday away match against Crystal Palace, where they have the chance to extend their lead by five points.

In contrast, Fulham has gone winless in four consecutive away league matches and will be eager to break that streak when they face Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Sunday.
