Liverpool’s rollercoaster season continues with defeat at Brentford

Liverpool was defeated 3-1 by Brentford on Monday, a result that hurt their chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

The match was marred by errors from Liverpool’s defense, including an own goal from Ibrahima Konate in the first half.

Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo scored for Brentford, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored for Liverpool. Konate received much of the blame for Liverpool’s poor defensive performance, but he was not the only one who struggled.

The loss leaves Liverpool in sixth place, four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. Brentford, who are on a six-game undefeated streak, including a win against Manchester City, were able to easily defeat Liverpool, despite being in seventh place.

Darwin Nunez, who was signed by Liverpool from Benfica for $77 million last year, also struggled in the match, missing several scoring opportunities.

Despite a pass from Mohamed Salah that created a scoring chance for Nunez, he was unable to convert it into a goal.
